Full day Convict Trail ecotour even visits two wineries:
Our fascinating full day Convict Trail Hunter Valley tour is designed to show you to some of the best kept secrets of the Hawkesbury River and Hunter Valley regions. We even visit two `boutique' vinyards near Wollombi who make some of the best wines in the Lower Hunter!
We depart Sydney following the historic Convict Trail to enjoy great views over the Hawkesbury River near Wiseman's Ferry. After a light refreshment overlooking the River, we explore a remarkable section of the Old Great North Road built by convicts in the 1830s and learn why it was abandoned soon after completion.
On the winery trail....
We take time out to visit the historic sandstone villages of Wiseman's Ferry, St Albans, Laguna and Wollombi where if time permits, we may discover the secret of Dr Jurd's `Jungle Juice'.
After following the Great North Road into the Hunter Valley, we visit two `boutique' vineyards hidden in the isolated valleys around Wollombi. Here, you may like to purchase some wine to enjoy with our lunch.
After a rest and a good look about historic Wollombi, we take a high mountain trail to pass through a magnificent sub-tropical rainforest. Nearby, in the State Forests of the Central Coast, we may visit an ancient aboriginal site before crossing the majestic Hawkesbury River on our return to Sydney.
