What a great day out! This tour explores scenic but little known country to the north-east of the Blue Mountains plateau.
After visiting luxuriant cool temperate rainforests of the Mt Wilson `Hill Station', we descend the Mountains via a 4WD ridge tracks overlook the Colo River to visit an ancient aboriginal site.
A highlight of this tour is the cable ferry River crossing and the spectacular scenic waterfront cliffs of the mighty Hawkesbury River. This early farming region dates back to the first settlements of the late 1800s so is steeped in convict colonial history. Small family cemetaries and even isolated headstones can be found along the way and the romantic atmosphere of this pioneering region has been celebrated in several recent Australian novels.
Your guide has spent over 30 years exploring this region on foot and by boat so you will have the opportunity to walk sections of the abandoned Old Great North Road before our return journey back to Katoomba.
